Platz – Tallinn (Estonia) en

Summary

At first the restaurant didn’t really speak to me with its lounge interior, but Platz actually offers quality international dishes with good ingredients, and I met locals that liked to go there.

The backstory

The minute I got off the plane at 9:30 pm, I was wanted to eat. Bus 2 brings you from the airport to the center in 10 minutes, in front of the Viru Keskus mall. Right beside it you have the pub Hetk that I had reviewed before, that’s where I went when I was first here; except that this time the kitchen was closed, and the way the waitress told us was so-so, but the Estonian person with me told me that it was normal, it seems that culture has something to do with it.

The venue

It’s a comfortable, cozy place, because each table has its own little spot, its own vibe, I liked it a lot. You can tell a lot of money was invested in this place, but as you will see, the kitchen kept its heart and soul.

The team

The staff is in place, each with their ear piece. We got a young waitress, available, dynamic, ready to give recommendations and advise, a very good surprise on that front too.

The meal

I go over the menu, lots of choices, there’s something for everyone, without making it look like a frozen product aisle.

The person that was with me chose a black rice cutlet with fried quinoa, hummus, and tzatziki sauce. The black rice was shaped into a paddy, she was happy, it was 8.50 euros

I chose a vegetable dish ( cooked in a wok) with a seaweed salad: very good, 8 euros. A special mention for the delicious bread that came with the meal, it came with good butter as well.

I drink a Saku, one of Estonia’s famous beer, 3.50 for the pint. I was still a bit hungry so I asked the server what he recommended. His favorite dish were the wood smoked shrimps. So here we go. They seemed to be more Estonian than Thai. They were cold and served in abundance, very good dish, 8 euros.

The verdict

The check wasn’t cheap for Tallinn, but it helped us out, it was still open past 10 pm, the service was friendly, we were comfortably sat, and it was good.
