Mahedik Café – Parnu (Estonia) en

Summary

Mahedik Café was the first eco-friendly coffee shop in Pärnu, it’s right in the center of the city and is a real model for other establishments.

The backstory

I ended up there by accident, even though it was one of my contacts’ favorite place there.

The venue

It’s in one of the pedestrian streets in center town. The inside is a bit much, but you’ll notice that’s often the case in Pärnu, it’s not that they’re trying too much, and making it look too lounge-like, it’s just the style here.

The team

We had a very present, dynamic server. It’s too bad that in Estonia you have to ask several times for the tables to be cleaned, it’s quickly taken care of in the end, but the reflex isn’t there to tidy up when a new client arrives. As the server kept bringing new things to the table, I asked him a second time if he could give a wipe. He responded “two seconds”, I said “Ok, no worries, it’s just that usually, it’s easier to start with that”:); from there it went very well.

Some people told me that they thought the overall quality of service had been going down the last few years. I can’t really say.

The meal

We ordered tea, served in some pretty cups.

Then I had a cold soup with yogurt ( from the farm) and ” all the fresh ingredients we could find”. It was lacking a bit of salt, but it was very fresh and healthy, the title itself gave me a real appetite.

The person with me got caramelized grapefruits with almonds and raspberries, it looked good and made me want to have dessert, however, it took 30 minutes to eat it all:)

The verdict

Not sure I would eat here everyday, but it’s a good place to know.

Here’s what the Parnu Like a Local” guide had to say about it: “It’s an eco-friendly coffee shop that serves healthy seasonal ingredients from surrounding local farms. Sometimes young musicians come to play, otherwise you can pick and choose the songs and play them on their CD player. You can even get the number to get your potatoes from a local grower!”
