E Cucina Leopardi – Bologna (Italia)

Summary

A very nice restaurant : a fine dining, a real chef who proposes a lunch menu for 10 euros : it’s trendy but not snobbish, the dishes are smart : even if my Italian friends thought the pasta were not the best they had,  my French palace, although requiring, approved it, my wallet too! Good tip!!!!

The venue

One could easily miss the entrance cause it looks like a squat of artists.

Once inside, there is a large volume with high ceilings. It’s packed every lunch so there is a baby foot while you’re waiting for a table.

The deco is loft-style with a DIY touch, there are two rooms and an open kitchen in the middle.

The team

The resto will be closed during the Soccer World Cup of 2014 because the chef Ceasre Maretti will be the chef for the National team.

The team is cool, young but works seriously. Here is the presentation of the restaurant’s spirit on their website :

“The first ingredient is the SMILE, because we like to make you feel good. Our philosophy: the FRESHNESS of the raw material and the CONVIVIO of the table. A HYMN vegetables and fruit, because all our dishes are paired with side dishes, without additional expense. We have a belief, NO TO PAPER NAPKINS, we will always find the cloth napkin!”

The meal

For the dinner there is a 30 euros menu but for lunch we have :

– 10 euros : a Antipasto – first dish (primo piatto) – dessert

– 15 euros : Antipasto – second dish (secondo piatto) – dessert.

– 20 euros : Antipasto – primo & secondo piatto – dessert.

All the menus come with wine and coffee.

Plat
Paste gamberi

Pasta with shrimps, they were al dente and salted like they never are in France, cant understand why. Well a French guy falls easily in love with pasta in Italia but still, they’re so much better. It’s like this.

My Italian friends from Bologna didn’t like the fennel that was cut in big pieces, they thought they only had this taste in mouth at the end. I told them in the “foodie sphere”, especially in Paris, that was the big thing to put vegetables in big pieces or flowers just like that, on top of the dish.

It wasn’t a problem for me. I didnt find the shrimps were incredible (although the seaside is only 1 hour drive) but the pasta themselves were perfect.

Dessert
My friends have eaten this dessert but I cant tell you what was inside.

I have personally chosen the fruit salad that was fresh and deliciously sweet, and not too cold as the ones prepared much in advance are.

The verdict

You can’t match this lunch menu, I have recommended it to may Bolognese people who were super interested.

If 30 euros at night is relatively expensive in Italy, the locals agreeded that 10 euros for such a lunch meny was the perfect deal.
